A Property of Historical Significance
A dendrochronological analysis of timbers within the property confirms the oldest timbers were cut in the period 1459-1489, the house constructed would have probably been single storey 'open hall' in form and comprises what is now the lower, southern, end of the current building. Other timbers have been dated to 1462-1569 suggesting a phase of 'reconstruction' around 1590; the artists impression below illustrates what the building may have looked like after this first 'extension'. ( Reid & Nash, 2019, p.56). Over the next four and a half centuries the building has been reworked on a number of occasions. This website attempts to illustrate the history of this fascinating house and some of the people who have lived in it.
